Ringling Museum

At 0700 it was 60 and partly cloudy.  The high for the day was 84.

We left around 0900 for Sarasota and the Ringling Museum of Art.  It is a little over 100 miles to the Museum and took about an hour and 40 minutes to get there.  The speed limit on the interstates down here is 70 and we had a couple construction areas. We got back to the park around 1800 let BJ out and went for supper

The museum can be broken down into the following areas: The Grounds and Gardens, Ca' d' Zan Mansion, Museum of Art, The Circus Museum, The Circus Museum Tibbals Learning Center, and The Historic Asolo Theater.  We were there from 1100 to 1600 and saw most of the highlighted items.  To learn more about any of the items click on the blue link above.  I took over 150 pictures. A lot of them were from the 3800 sq ft model layout of a 1920's circus.

Ca' d' Zan which means "House of John" in Venetian dialect was built in 2 years.  It was completed around Christmas 1925 at a cost of $1.5 million.  To date $16 million has been spent on the restoration.  Most of the floors are imported marble and the ceilings of most rooms have some type of paintings or special treatment.

Here are some pictures from the mansion:

A pair of these silver geese were on the dining room table. You removed the head and  put Rose Water in them.  The bodies have vents in them.  Walla, room air fresheners.
