WE left Walkabout Camp around 1000 and headed 180 miles south to Sumter Oaks, Bushnell, FL. After stopping for a stretch brake and then fuel, we got to Sumter Oaks at 1400. Wallace, the park manger, remembered us and asked is we wanted the same site as last year. We said sure and settled in to site #1. Once settled, we headed to Sonny's BBQ for a late lunch. It was definitely better than the bbq we had in GA. WE then went to Walmart and back to the MH. The campground was having entertainment, so we headed up to the clubhouse. It was a one man comedy routine that was really good. That.s about it for today.
Friday 11-30-2012
Today was in the upper 70's and clear. We spent the day getting the MH ready for our stay here. The awning is tied down, the rug and chairs out, and the windows cleaned. Beryl also put some xmas decorations in the windows. Tomorrow BJ is going for a bath and trim.
That's all for today

A dreary damp day
Today was overcast, dreary with a high in the low 60's.
Today was a do nothing day. Beryl did the wash and cleaned, It looked like it might rain at any time, but all we had was a real damp day.
Tomorrow we will travel 3 hrs south to Sumter Oaks RV Park.

Fort Frederica and Southern Soul Barbeque
Today was overcast with temps in the mid 70's
We left around 1100 and headed northeast to St Simons Island and Fort Frederica National Monument. The Info center has a nice film about the fort. Unfortunately due to time and a fire all that remains of the fort are foundations that have been uncovered through the years. The NPS gives you a player that guides you through the ruins and provides a story on each ruin. Here are some pictures from the site.
This is a map of the original fort
View down Main Street to the Fort
Typical foundation
200+ year old oak tree
What is left of the Watch Tower
The Cemetery
From the Fort we headed to Southern Soul Barbeque. They have been featured on "Triple D". Beryl had the pulled pork sandwich and FF, I had the Southern soul sampler. Pulled pork, ribs, Brunswick stew, soul slaw and bread. We ate at one of tables outside
Everything was good, but I don't think I would go out of my way to get there. Sonny's BBQ is just as good.
We got back to the MH a little before 1600. BJ got his walk, tanks were dumped and we chilled out. This tourist thing is tiring. We are going to stay here another day and head down the road on Thursday.
Thats all for today

Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge
Sunday 11-25-2012
We were up early thanks to BJ. He had an upset tummy and messed up the bed. We hit the road around 1000, stopped to top off the Fuel tank at $4.01/gal and got to Walkabout Camp and RV Park at Woodbine, GA around 1300. The camp was having a pot luck supper. They supplied turkey and Ham and everyone brought a covered dish. Beryl made Mac n Cheese. There was around 30 people there. Everyone was very friendly and all the food was good.
Monday 11-26-2012
Everyone, including BJ had a good night. Around 1100 we headed thirty some miles inland to the Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge. The Okefenokee offers so much, one could spend a lifetime and still not see and do everything. The refuge is vast, with almost 402,000 acres (that’s roughly 300,000 football fields in size) of cypress forest, marsh, lakes and islands. Filled with alligators, Sandhill cranes, red-cockaded woodpeckers and over 400 other species of animals. Yes Lorie, there are alligators in Georgia.
As we were walking up to the info center, we were asked if we wanted to go on the boat tour that was getting ready to leave. We quickly paid our fee and headed to the boat. The other six occupants were from somewhere in the United Kingdom. The water level in the swamp is several feet higher than normal and they have had a heavy frost the last coup;e of nights. The best time to see the Refuge is late March through May. Below are some scenes from the 90 minute boat ride.

After the boat tour we took the 9 mile drive out to the Chesser Island Homestead

The front part of this house was built by Cheeser and a man with a tractor powered sawmill in 21 days and Cheeser paid the man $150.00. After the Refuge took over the property it took 2 years to restore it.
After we left the Refuge we drove 40 miles to have supper at St Marys Seafood and More. I had fried shrimp, oysters, scallops and green tomatoes and french fries, Beryl had fried shrimp FF and fried green tomatoes. We brought enough home for another meal.
This is the view out the front of the MH. I missed the best part of the sunset.
That's about it for today

Moving furthur South
Yesterday the temps got into the mid 60's. Beryl and Margie went to the Dollar General and I hung around the MH. Later in the afternoon Ryan and his fiancee, Christine came by for a visit. I spent the evening on the computer.
Around 1100 this morning we said goodbye to Margie and Sadie and headed south on I-77.

Remember you can click on the pictures to enlarge them. Sadie got rid of the cone last night. About 60 miles down the road we pulled into a Flying J for 53 gals of fuel. We arrived at The New Green Acres RV Park around 1445. Traffic was a lot better than Monday and Tuesday. We got settled in and headed to Ruby Tuesdays for an early supper.
After supper, BJ got another walk and we watched the end of the PSU - Wisconsin football game. PSU won in overtime.
Tomorrow we will continue South on I-95 to exit 7 in GA and the Walkabout Camp and RV Park. We plan on spending several days there. Clicking on highlighted text should take you to their website.

Happy Thanksgiving
Wednesday was a do nothing day. Beryl spent most of the time with Margie and I went up to Camping World get some new step covers. I also made reservations for our next 2 stops.
Today we had all the goodies at noon. Ryan joined us for the Thanksgiving dinner..
The afternoon was spent relaxing after the good meal.
We'll have to see what tomorrow brings.

We're on the Road
We spent the end of last week and the weekend moving stuff to the RV. By Sunday night, we were done moving, the water tank was full and the Jeep hooked up. We got on the road around 0930 Monday and got to the Flying J at Winchester, VA around 1330.
We filled up with diesel, 60 gal @ $3.81/gal and 28 gals of propane @ $2.89 a gal. We have a Pilot RVplus card through the Good Sams Club that gives you $0.08 off diesel and $0.10 off a gal of propane. We planned on eating their but there was no place to park. We stopped at the next rest area for a quick sandwich. We got to the Staunton/Walnut Hills KOA around 1630 and settled in for the night.
We left the KOA around 1030 and should of gotten to Sadie's RV Resort around 1520. The first 60 miles was 2 lanes bumper to bumper running the speed limit or above. Things went good until we got to mile marker 19 on 77. It took us a little over and hour to go 12 miles and we never saw what was causing the delay. We finally arrived around 1630.

BJ is Ready
BJ has decided that he is already sick of the cold weather.
Since he is the boss, we will be heading South on Nov 19th barring any complications. We will spend Monday night at the KOA at Staunton, Va. It is around 300 miles to Staunton. Then proceed on to Sadie's RV Resort at Mooresville, NC. We will spend Thanksgiving with Margie and Sadie.
After Thanksgiving we will continue on to Sumter Oaks at Bushnell, FL with an overnight stop at Waterboro,SC and several days at Woodbine, GA. While at Woodbine, we plan on going to Southern Soul Barbeque which was featured on Triple D and seafood in St Mary's.
I don't know if this blog will get published every day once we get to FL. It will depend on how much trouble BJ gets us into. Check back for updates.
